With single-digit temperatures already upon us, the pond at Rochester Municipal Park is now ready to go on!
With single-digit temperatures already upon us, the pond at Rochester Municipal Park has sufficiently frozen to a thickness of over four (4) inches, now making it safe to go on! Whether you want to go ice skating, play ice hockey or go ice fishing, now is the time, and the Municipal Park is the place! Please note that these conditions can change quickly and that ice is never 100% safe. Please use caution and follow safe practices, including those listed below, when on lake ice:
- Never go out onto the ice alone.
- If you hear a crack or feel a shift, lie down on your stomach and crawl back to shore. This action will help distribute your weight on the unsafe ice.
- Be sure to check the thickness of the ice with tools such as an auger, drill, or ice spud.
