When a Building Permit is Required

Overview

A building permit application must be completed whenever a building is to be erected, altered, enlarged, structurally repaired, moved, or converted to different use groups as defined in the building code.

When a Permit is Required

Building permits are required to install the following:

Replacement windows or doors when the opening size is altered
Pools that are more than 24" deep
Decks (including porches)
Garages or carports
Swimming pools
Hot tubs

When a Permit is Not Required

Sheds less than 100' in size
Private property driveways on grade
Redecorating
Replacing doors or windows that don't alter the opening size
Prefabricated above-ground pools less than 24" deep
