To register as an elector in the State of Michigan, you must be 18 years of age and have been a resident of the community for 30 days prior to the election.
Register to vote using the Voter Registration Form, or you may also register in person at any Secretary of State Office

A General Municipal Election is held in November of every odd year. Four members of the City Council are elected during these elections. The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes each serve for a four-year term, and the candidate receiving the fourth highest number of votes serves for a two-year term.
Persons interested in running for City Council must be registered to vote and must submit nominating petitions as required by law. Petitions may not contain less than 25 or more than 50 valid signatures. The submission deadline is the Tuesday 12 weeks prior to the August primary date by 4:00 pm. No primary will be held if fewer than eight candidates submit petitions.
